Welcome to the official website of Iakovos Kolanian, one of the leading classical guitar virtuosos from Greece. Following a successful tour of the Western U.S. and, in passing, winning the Best Instrumental Album at the Armenian Music Awards for his Shoror in 2005, Kolanian has recently celebrated the release of his third solo album, Bohemio.
Prior to recording this latest album, which is dedicated to the guitar masterworks of Agustín Barrios, Kolanian had released a unique album of traditional Armenian folk melodies, Shoror, featuring original transcriptions for the classical guitar. In addition to some choice Armenian folk songs and dances, the album pays special tribute to the work of Komitas, including his complete set of Dances originally composed for piano.
Most recently Kolanian has been at work on transcribing and recording the Epitafios, a collection of eight songs, as well as Romancero Gitano, both by the renowned Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis which he will be performing in its entirety as part of his concert program during his upcoming tour to the United States in the fall. Plans are also in the works for Kolanian for a much-anticipated recital in his native Athens later this year.
Kolanian also maintains an active touring schedule and has recently returned from the Canetti International Music Festival in Paris, where he was invited to perform and teach master classes.
